What is a slotting machine or slotter?
Slotting machine is a reciprocating device tool in which a ram handling the tool reciprocates in a vertical axis and cutting is performed during the downward stroke. The machine removes unwanted material chips from the workpiece to produce splines, grooves, keyways, and other internal or external profiles.
It can also produce flat and contour surfaces and slots. Components of a slotter machine include the base, column, table, ram, tool head, and saddle.
The base of the slotter is robust enough to handle cutting forces. The front side of the vertical column has guide directions for the tool, while the ram supports the tool head. The workpiece is mounted on the table, which can undergo longitudinal, cross, and rotary feed motion.

Performance
How Daljit Slotting Machines Perform
The operation table of the machine tool has three feed directions: longitudinal, horizontal, and rotary. This lets the workpiece be clamped for machining several surfaces. The machine follows a hydraulic transmission mechanism with sliding pillow reciprocating movement and a hydraulic feed system for the working table.
The sliding pillow maintains the same speed in each operation, and the speed of the ram and table can be adjusted as required.
Ram commutation oil in the hydraulic control table is used for oil reversing in addition to hydraulic and manual feed operations. A single motor drive can work in vertical, horizontal, and rotary motions at high speed. Hydraulic feed is used when the operation turns back to instantaneous feed, making it more effective than a purely mechanical slotting device.
